That will complete the circle of a great program.” 2013 will be the 10-year anniversary of this successful program. In a nutshell, learn to walk before running.” The classroom training is just one aspect of the CRTI program. Michael Y. Choi, MD, University of California, San Diego, remarked that “while all the didactic lectures were great, I think it will be the relationships that will ultimately be the most important thing I gain from this experience.” Prithviraj Bose, MD, Virginia Commonwealth University and Massey Cancer Center, echoed this sentiment: “I think for me the most valuable thing was the unique opportunity to interact one-on-one and informally with so many highly accomplished hematologists. It was an honor. These contacts will be extremely valuable to me as I try to build a career in clinical research and could lead to additional opportunities for research and publications.” Since only 20 participants are chosen annually, the size of the group lends itself to many practical, smallgroup discussions where trainee proposals can be refined for interventional trials and observational studies. “It gives you a broad exposure to the different types of clinical research modalities, and the small groups help you hone your individual idea,” remarked 2011 participant Soham Puvavada, MD, Duke University Medical Center.
