Several major milestones in this dramatic physical transformation were achieved in 2010–2011. On October 26, president Aaron Podolefsky cut the ribbon to officially open the renovated Student Union Quad. The $5.3 million project began in May 2009. Located at the heart of the campus, the Quad includes new plantings, hardscape features, and benches. On June 10, the university celebrated the groundbreaking for a new $38 million Technology Building south of the Classroom Building. The Technology Building—a three-story, 87,000-square-foot facility— will serve as the new home to the Computer Information Systems and Technology departments. The building is scheduled for completion in summer 2013. Construction of the $44 million, 500-bed Student Apartment Complex (STAC) on Grant Street and the $110 million Science and Mathematics Complex on the north side of campus continued in 2010–2011. The STAC successfully opened to students in fall 2011, and the Science and Mathematics Complex is scheduled for phased openings between 2012 and 2016. 10 B U F FA L O S TAT E C O L L E G E
