She has always wanted to make a difference in the lives of the voiceless and marginalized. After graduating from Texas Woman’s University in Denton with a degree in psychology, she went to work at a local crisis center, counseling clients with overwhelming personal issues, including thoughts of suicide and homicide. That powerful experience piqued Wall’s interest in the wide range of sociological issues that affect the human condition. And so she returned to Texas Woman’s to earn her doctorate in sociology and embark on a teaching career in which she could educate students in the classroom and continue to research and apply her knowledge of social activity, policy, and welfare. Wall joined the Buffalo State faculty in 2000 and has pursued her goals with passion. As a classroom teacher, she is well known for her enthusiasm, availability, and subject knowledge. As a researcher, she has produced an impressive number of publications and presentations. And as an applied sociologist, she is often found working alongside community organizations, especially those that address issues affecting women and children. Under her constant encouragement to become active participants in society, Wall’s students have conducted service-learning projects with such programs as Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build, and the Priscilla Project for pregnant refugee women on Buffalo’s West Side. Following her wonderful example, these students are making a difference in our community, too. B U F FA L O S TAT E C O L L E G E
