In fact, during the past year, Carlson has delighted movie theater audiences with two films. Both received critical acclaim. His 125-minute action flick, The Codex, which he wrote, directed, and starred in, was selected as one of 12 finalists in the student films category at the fifth annual Buffalo Niagara Film Festival. And Legerdemain, a film that Carlson co-starred in and was created in the spring semester by students in associate professor Lou Rera’s Producing Short Films II class, won the Audience Award at the third annual SUNYWide Film Festival. An All College Honors student from Gerry, New York, Carlson has taken advantage of every opportunity available to him on campus— from perfecting his film-editing techniques in the studio, to honing his acting skills as a cast member of the student-produced weekly improv show, Friday Night Live, to putting his leadership abilities to work as a Buffalo State representative on the Community Advisory Group for the Richardson Olmsted Complex. He does it all in an effort to build his résumé and to gather story ideas and contacts that may lead to future film projects. As one who believes that the best way to change society for the better is with a powerful movie, Carlson is well on his way to making the world a better place. B U F FA L O S TAT E C O L L E G E
