Alpine Meadows Recognized with Tommi Tyndall Award by Gene Fulkerson & Catherine Ohl Alpine Meadows Ski Resort received the Far West Ski Association’s Tommi Tyndall Award, presented to a ski area who has made a distinguished contribution to skiing. Accepting the Award at the 79th Annual FWSA Convention in Industry Hills on behalf of Alpine Meadows was Bradley Barth, Senior Sales Manager. This year, Alpine Meadows hosted the Far West Racing Championships. The Championships tend to bring to our attention how the resort is doing. Alpine Meadows is one of the Tahoe resorts that offer a great discount program for the Bay Area Snow Sports Council and Sierra Council clubs. For many years, Alpine Meadows has hosted ski races for Far West Singles, Open and Sierra Leagues. They have a race department Randy Lew presents Tommi Tyndall Award to Alpine Meadows. Alpine Meadows has been a participant in the FWSA’s Silent Auction and Travel Expo for many years. Alpine Meadows Ski Resort (JMA Ventures, LLC properties) believes that giving back to their North Lake Tahoe / Truckee community – where they live, play and work – is the only way to do business. Their goal in giving is to support efforts that positively affect the local community, specifically educational efforts and environmental stewardship. Alpine Meadows is proud to support the following nonprofit organizations, and many others. ■ Disabled Sports USA Far West’s Program Center is located at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. Their PSIA certified instructors and trained volunteers make skiing or snowboarding possible for anyone with physical, cognitive or developmental disabilities. ■ SOS Outreach offers skiing for at risk children and teens. This season, Alpine hosted a group of children in the SOS Outreach Learn to Ride program. ■ Alpine Meadows has partnered with the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe (HSTT) to raise funds toward building a new shelter for homeless animals in the Truckee-Tahoe community while they wait for adoption. The Alpine Meadows Ski Foundation provides scholarships to young athletes who need financial assistance in order to engage in ski and snowboard teams at the resort. They also offer assistance to athletic charities and organizations for disabled athletes. In addition, Alpine Meadows was ranked third in the nation for being an Eco-Friendly Ski Resort, based on habitat protection, watershed protection, addressing global climate change and environmental practices and policies. For their outstanding support of their community, young racers, the environment and the Far West Ski Association, Alpine Meadows is truly deserving as a recipient of the Tommi Tyndall Award. 32 Far West Skier’s Guide 2O11 - 2O12 / See the Digital Edition of the Far West Skier’s Guide at www.fwsa.org. http://www.fwsa.org
