The personal connections our ladies and gentlemen make have created so many memories for my family and me. During a recent getaway at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, in Miami, I commented to my husband in the elevator that I forgot my sunscreen. Later, when I got back to my room, not only was there a bottle of sunblock on the dresser but a lovely note accompanying it. The fact that someone had overhead me in the elevator and gone to the trouble of figuring out my name and room number was an unexpected, thoughtful gesture — and just one of many small touches that can make a trip extraordinary. Even when I travel for business, I often arrive at my hotel room to find pictures of my children on the nightstand — what a great surprise when far away from home.
