Since the days of Cleopatra and Mark Antony, romance and roses have been coupled together. The damask rose, sourced from Turkey, uplifts with its freshness and lightness, creating a mood of well-being and happiness. Used as a heart note, Delacourte describes this ﬂower as “a very calm and fresh rose, not a sexy rose, not a greedy rose.” Romantic Relaxing A symbol of purity and virginity, orange blossom is a ﬁtting note for a bespoke bridal fragrance. The ﬂower was once used to calm the nerves of Victorian brides and is still placed in bridal bouquets in southern Europe today. Sweet and fresh, orange blossom emanates a sense of balance and is used as a top note. Sunny These notes emit a relaxed feeling, with the impression of sun-kissed skin. Their brightness translates to a shining e ect on a bride, who will positively glow. “Sunny notes convey the feeling of being on holiday and lying on the sand,” Delacourte says. Often created synthetically, these bottom notes enhance the natural fragrance of ﬂowers like ylang ylang or frangipani. Musky These notes can be described as powdery and comforting like the smell of newborn skin. They have a pampering and enveloping e ect on the body and mind. Generally made with synthetic ingredients, delicate musky notes are used as a bottom note. Crisp One of the ﬁnest citrus notes, bergamot is fresh, dynamic and clean.
