Back on Her Feet “I had surgery on Monday,” King says. “I was walking with a walker on Tuesday, with a physical therapist holding on to a strap, just in case. And I went home on Wednesday. On Friday, a physical therapist came to my house. I had therapy twice a week, then I added in water aerobics. Those classes were great, since they don’t put weight on my new hip.” King used a walker for about two weeks, and then a cane, to steady herself, for another month. Her incision, about 3 inches long, required no staples. “Before, I couldn’t do much, because my leg would get so tired,” King says. “Within a few weeks of surgery, I could go to the grocery store, stand, cook and do all my daily activities without pain. And best of all, I can take my motor home and travel anywhere I want.” Lake Lanier and NASCAR races are among her favorite places to travel in her motor home with family and friends. “We have such a good time there,” she adds. King loves her regained independence. Her advice to others with hip pain is, simply: “Don’t wait for years,” she says. “If the doctor says you need your hip replaced, just do it. That pain just wears you out. I’m good to go for a long time now.” After her hip replacement, Elizabeth “Libby” King hit the road again, doing what she loves: traveling in her motor home with family and friends. caLL For a free referral to see a physician who specializes in the groundbreaking anterior hip procedure, call 678-312-5000.
