W HIGH TECH omen’s imaging at Gwinnett Medical Center aims to provide the most cutting-edge and compassionate care. Beginning earlier this fall, GMC took this commitment to a new level with the launch of a facility dedicated to this very goal. The Gwinnett Breast Center (GBC) at GMC– Lawrenceville, the newest of GMC’s several outpatient imaging centers in the area, recently opened its doors to serve women from across the community. The Gwinnett Breast Center at GMC–Lawrenceville uses digital equipment and accredited staff in the fight against breast cancer. The GBC, located at the 631 Building, is home to the Marion Allison Webb Center for Screening Mammography and the Sandra J. Strickland Diagnostic Center. It uses technologically advanced, fully digital equipment in the ﬁght against breast cancer. One piece of this technology array is the 3T MRI, which uses a 3 tesla magnet that is 60,000 times more powerful than Earth’s magnetic ﬁeld to provide the clearest image possible. Because the center is fully digital, it uses computers and detectors to produce images that can be displayed on high-resolution computer monitors, and transmitted and stored like computer ﬁles. Unlike ﬁlm-based mammograms that take time to develop, digital mammography produces images that appear on the monitor in seconds, meaning shorter exam times. Digital mammograms provide exceptional image quality, which is vital to early detection. GMC also uses computer-aided detection in all mammography exams, which better identiﬁes regions of interest on the images. relaxing music, soft decor and complimentary beverages. The center offers separate waiting rooms for screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms, allowing for maximum privacy for patients. Also, private elevators transition patients between the breast center and the MRI suite. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER The Gwinnett Breast Center provides a multidisciplinary approach to give the best care to women. From screenings to diagnostics to procedures, the center is an all-inclusive facility that ﬁts the needs of all patients. What’s more, the GBC is accredited by the prestigious National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and specializes in breast imaging care, focusing on the needs of each patient and giving personalized care.
