The monitors, which display heart rhythm and pressures, will help clinicians to anticipate needs and improve efﬁciency. Equipment and electrical and medical gas stations will be suspended from the ceiling on booms for ease of motion among physicians and clinicians. CONTINUING EDUCATION Although technology plays a major role in patient experience and results, education and consultation services can also have far-reaching effects. For example, Amy Tella, clinical nutrition manager, will teach patients and their families about how low-sodium and low-fat diets can help ensure a new, hearthealthy lifestyle. And the Heart & Vascular Center was built with the future in mind. Construction plans for the operating rooms and supporting spaces include accommodations for future surgical offerings that integrate modern technology and new methods. “It’s critical that we build on our existing relationships and momentum to continually improve this service with patients’ needs being ﬁ rst and foremost,” Wolfe says. “The community’s future is very bright at GMC.” Lifesaving Care for the Life of the Party Sue Rosekrans is known to many as the “hostess with the mostest.” So this spring, when the Loganville resident experienced extreme chest pain during a party, she knew something was amiss. After the last of her guests left, she asked her husband to take her to Gwinnett Medical Center–Lawrenceville. At the hospital, Rosekrans required an angioplasty, where physicians opened a blocked coronary artery with a balloon and inserted a stent to allow blood to continue to flow. Thankfully for Rosekrans, GMC had just started performing this percutaneous coronary intervention. Since March, GMC has successfully completed hundreds of the procedures. Interestingly, Leah Watkins, one of Rosekrans’ five children, assisted GMC in securing the certificate of need that was necessary to bring cardiovascular services to Gwinnett. “I never imagined that after partnering on this exact certificate of need case that my mother would be one of the first to receive this care,” says Watkins, who knew her mom was in good hands. Months after her procedure, Rosekrans continues to make progress. Because tests show that she has another artery in need of attention, she knows she’ll be visiting GMC again.
