OUT OF THE WHITE COAT Mother Figure Emergency pediatric physician shows her dedication to work and family J an Rea, M.D., is a board-certified emergency pediatric physician at Gwinnett Medical Center–Lawrenceville’s Children’s Emergency Center. After doing undergraduate work at Emory University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Rea stayed at UNC for medical school. She then completed her pediatric residency at the University of Florida’s Shands Teaching Hospital and her pediatric emergency fellowship at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Rea, who has been with GMC since 1988, is a Gwinnett resident and has given birth to her four children at GMC. Interestingly, she was working and had just left a patient’s room as her water broke for her fourth child, Wren, and she was rushed to the Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion to give birth. When it’s time to relax, Dr. Rea enjoys visiting her family’s Victorian get-away home in Walhalla, S.C. She likes going out on the lake to swim and waterski with her family. Her favorite hobby is shopping for antiques. Dr. Rea was kind enough to give us a glimpse into her life by answering these fun questions.
