MD Conference Express ADA 2011 - (Page 4)

Dear Members and Friends, We are pleased to share with you highlights from the American Diabetes Association’s 71st Scientific Sessions held in San Diego, California, June 24-28. The topics selected for this issue of MD Conference Express® were chosen from the hundreds of presentations at the conference and represent the most newsworthy topics of relevance to a broad range of practitioners. This year’s meeting showcased a wide variety of important clinical trials including the final results of the SHIELD Study. Investigators are hopeful that data from the study can be leveraged to help shape health policies and outreach efforts. The RISE and RIDE Trials showed that the use of ranibizumab led to sustained improvement in both vision and retinal anatomy, reduced the progression of diabetic retinopathy and improved patient reported function. A Phase 2 study investigated the use of an injection free subcutaneous delivery system for exenatide and found that long-term treatment with the device are effective in controlling glycemic parameters. The device may also provide positive cardiovascular benefits. In addition to the results of the top late-breaking clinical trials that are highlighted in this report, you will also find in depth information on selected topics, including novel therapies for type 2 diabetes, drug induced dysglycemia and the role of antiplatelet therapy in diabetes. We hope that you find the peer-reviewed articles and practical perspectives that are contained in the pages of this issue of MD Conference Express helpful in integrating this new information into your clinical practice, and encourage you to plan to attend the 72nd Scientific Sessions June 8-12, 2012 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
