Healthy H2O If You Care About … LAND CONSIDER: Minnesota Land Trust This nonprofit works with landowners and communities to preserve the state’s natural beauty, from the North Shore to the southern bluffland. “We have completed 424 separate land protection projects that provide permanent protection for 38,000 acres of natural and scenic land,” says Walter Abramson, director of development and communications. CURRENT PROJECT: The Trust is leading a major restoration effort in the contaminated St. Louis River Estuary, a 12,000-acre wetland complex. HOW YOU CAN HELP: If you own high-quality, scenic land, the Trust would love to talk with you about protecting it—especially if it contains water. mnland.org Many bright Minnesotan minds have been thinking about water lately, thanks to the Minnesota Idea Open, sponsored by Minnesota Community Foundation and Pentair. The Idea Open challenged residents to say how they’d use $15,000 to address water issues in their community. Scores of people offered ideas, but only one was crowned the champion to implement their idea. Learn about the winner at mnideaopen.org. Environmental Justice This category wasn’t included in the survey, but we asked Minnesota Philanthropy Partners’ program staff to identify a high-impact nonprofit in this area.
