Message	from	the	Dean
The	new	Pharmacy	and	Pharmaceutical	Sciences	 building	has	been	a	long	time	coming. Much	like	expectant	parents,	we’ve	spent	years		 building	a	nest	egg,	planning,	hoping	and		 anticipating	our	“new	addition.”	And	in	early		 March,	with	our	move	into	the	new	building,		 our	dream	became	reality. Many	people	made	this	event	possible	–	alumni,	 donors,	faculty,	friends,	students	and	staff	–		 not	the	least	of	whom	is	our	facilities	director,	 Susan	Saunders,	who	oversaw	the	project	from	 conception	to	birth.	In	fact,	this	is	Susan’s	second	 time	overseeing	the	construction	of	a	building		 for	our	school.	And,	as	you	will	read	in	the	article	 titled	Renaissance Woman construction	management	is	only	one	of	her	many	talents!	 In	addition	to	providing	a	glimpse	of	the	people	 involved	in	this	project,	this	edition	of	Pharmacy Perspectives	highlights	alumni	and	their	post	 graduate	endeavors,	breakthrough	research	in	 which	our	faculty	are	involved	and	provides	a	 virtual	tour	of	our	new	building. With	dedicated	space	for	student	organizations	 and	clinical	trials,	faculty	offices,	45	laboratories,	 and	multipurpose	space	for	seminars,	meetings	 and	onsite	immunization	clinics,	the	new	building	 will	grow	with	us	for	many	years	to	come.	Being	 the	first	new	building	on	the	Anschutz	Medical	 Campus	with	LEED	certification	(pending),	we	 are	setting	standards	for	one	of	the	largest	medical	 hubs	and	academic	health	centers	in	the	nation. And	like	any	proud	parent	we	are	excited	to		 show	off	our	new	addition.	Check	out	the	photos	 on	this	page	and	throughout	the	newsletter	or		 better	yet,	drop	by	for	a	visit. This	year	marks	a	new	name	for	the	school	–	the	 Skaggs	School	of	Pharmacy	and	Pharmaceutical	 Sciences	–	and	our	100th	anniversary.	Throughout	 the	year	you	will	receive	invitations	to	a	number	 of	events	including	a	special	event	with	Maya		 Angelou	on	Oct.	21	at	the	Paramount	Theatre,		 and	a	chance	to	cheer	on	your		 Buffaloes	on	Oct.	22	when	CU	faces		 Oregon	at	homecoming.
